Rushdie becomes sir Rushdie. This upsets people.

Salman Rushdie has been knighted, and the peeps who wanted him dead before have been reminded why they wanted him dead to begin with (it wasn't the broadway version of Midnight's Children, but according to my Rushdie class Professor, it may as well have been). Protesting has flared up to denounce the Queen's decision, made because of Rushdie's contribution to literature. Three of his books are awesome, so I won't fight it.

Talk of the nation discussed this "issue" at length yesterday. Apparently people who get mad about these things are particularly mad at Tony Blair (he has to sing off on any and all knighting’s)--they think this was his way of leaving one last piece of s!%t on England before he leaves office.... Interestingly enough, the people who decide who gets knighted are not the Queen or Tony Blair, its a circle of "intellectuals"--"mostly artist types" and they apparently thought this issue was over, being that the fatwa was taken OFF in 1989, was it?
